This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list, rather a ‘jumping off’ point into the world of reading and writing for young children and parents. Simple ABC books on the list are great read-aloud books for introducing pre-schoolers to the Alphabet as they learn to identify the letters.

The book How To Tutor by Samuel L Blumenfeld, Alpha-Phonics™ originator, is highly recommended if you are teaching a young child how to read and write. The presentation order of letters establishes a strong foundation for reading phonetically. Introducing each letter in the Vimala Alphabet™ concurrently is a vital component in forming positive forward-thinking and writing habits. It is highly recommended that each Vimala letter is written as it is introduced. The practice word lists can also be printed out using the Vimala font. (available at vimalarodgers.com

A magnetic whiteboard is useful when introducing letters and words to preschoolers. Say the letter, then write it out using the Vimala Handwriting System™. Say words, and again, write them out for the child to read. These are also handy when using magnetic letters for very young children to begin to identify letters as sound symbols. Stand-up easel versions of these are readily available and affordable. (available at Amazon.com)

It’s helpful to laminate your letter and word lists for durability. I recommend investing in a small home laminator. Prices are budget friendly and it is easily available. I use the Scotch brand. (available at Amazon.com)

LCD tablets are also useful when presenting the letters. If you are teaching one-on-one, it’s recommended you have two — one for you and one for your child. Let them practice along with you on their own tablet. These are available in a variety of choices, colors, and prices from Amazon.com.
